| The
Wavy Navy
The
Wavy Navy group was formed by the amalgamation of several naval re-enactors
from many parts of the U.K. The group portrays members of the R.N. and
WRNS during the second world war. Current strength of the group comprises
of seven R.N. officers including a naval surgeon and a naval Chaplain
(a practising Methodist local preacher). The ranks range from Captain
to sub Lieutenant. The WRNS are well represented by four officers and
four senior ratings.Having ex R.N. and WRNS members within the group ensures
accuracy and attention to detail in dress and traditions.
The group was asked to recreate the original wartime atmosphere of the
“Bombe unit” at Bletchley Park, for the “War on the
Park” weekend. This was achieved by staffing the building with Wren
operators and providing period equipment to complement the reconstructed
“Bombe” mechanical analysing machines already situated in
the building, bringing the unit to life for the visiting public. Our R.N.
officers also provided induction and security briefing for the general
public.
Regarding transport, we have a 1940’s M.G. sports car, similar to
the one owned by Lt. Mountbatten (Prince Philip) during his naval service.
We also have wartime period cycles for the WRNS use. Plans are at present
in hand to increase our display capability within other scenarios.
